A new literary consultancy is launching in the Middle East, created around a simple belief: that great books, thoughtfully placed, can shape how we experience a space. Chapter works with hotels, hospitality destinations, private residences, members’ clubs and cultural spaces to create bespoke book collections shaped by the places they belong to.
From an intimate collection beside a guest’s bed to a library at the heart of a hotel or books woven throughout an entire property, each is curated around its setting, audience and sense of place.
From initial concept and curation through to sourcing, procurement, styling and installation, collections can draw inspiration from a destination’s landscape, history and culture; the architecture and design of a property; or the way guests will experience and move through a space.
As hotels and destinations across the region place ever greater emphasis on the details that define the guest experience – from architecture and art to food, music and design – Chapter believes books deserve the same consideration. Rather than treating a library as something added once a space is complete, Chapter works alongside hoteliers, developers, architects and interior designers to consider how books can become an integral part of its identity.
But Chapter’s work also extends beyond the bookshelf; through author conversations, intimate salons, readings, book clubs, literary retreats and cultural partnerships, the consultancy creates programming that brings collections to life and extends the role of a library into the wider guest experience.
Founded in Dubai by Shadi Moazami, Chapter brings together a lifelong relationship with literature with more 17 years spent working within travel, hospitality and communications in the Middle East. “Some of the most memorable hospitality experiences are defined by the smallest details, the elements that give a space character and connect it to where you are. Books have an incredible ability to do that. With Chapter, we want to give the same consideration as art, design or music, creating collections that add depth to a space, encourage discovery and become a meaningful part of the guest experience.”
Chapter’s approach spans four interconnected areas: Collections, Spaces, Conversations and Legacy. From creating and installing an initial collection to seasonal curation and ongoing cultural programming, the consultancy is designed to work with clients both on individual projects and as a long-term cultural partner.
Based in Dubai and working across the Middle East, Chapter will draw on relationships with publishers, writers, booksellers, literary organisations and cultural institutions both regionally and internationally, bringing together global literature with regional voices and stories.
